Last Night’s Twitter Debate Between @ESPNChiBulls & @BullsBlogger on the Current State of the Bulls
This is long but well worth the read from two Bulls beat writers with contrasting views on the current state of the Chicago Bulls and what they should do moving forward. Rather than compiling it into a back and forth, I split it with each having their own point of view because Twitter is weird. (For the record, I’m with @BullsBlogger).
@ESPNChiBulls (Nick Friedell)’s point of view:
To the people saying match Omer deal don't come crying two summers from now when Bulls can't add another star. $15 mil cap hit is a crusher.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
LOL acquiring players LOL RT @ESPNChiBulls: Who in the world thinks … "We got Asik and Lin for $50 mil … championship!"—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger OK, I'm interested. You are Gar. Explain to me how you can turn the Bulls into a championship winner in next 2 years.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@bullsblogger I'm not saying Bulls haven't been cheap in past, history suggests otherwise. What I'm saying is Bulls are stuck for 2 yrs.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
The Bulls have made an absolute ton of $ over the years. But please explain to me which player out there on the market puts them over top?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Here's where we have a fundamental disagreement. So keeping Watson, Korver and Brewer would have kept Bulls in place?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger I never thought this team, as constructed, was good enough to beat Miami. Who could they acquire right now to get over hump?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger I agree with you on that. It would take more than 1. Point is that because of Derrick's injury&lack of pieces they're stuck.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger We agree again. Sure they could do more. Could have traded Omer for Lee 2 years ago. Could have gotten Bogans out of lineup—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger In my opinion, the day Big 3 signed with Miami was the beginning of the end for the Bulls at least in short term future …—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger No matter who they added, Rip, Hinrich, whatever, they didn't have enough space to get another star and it's what they need.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger If it was me, that's what I would do. What other choice is there? Rose, Deng, Boozer, Rip, Noah, Hinrich isn't good enough.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Look, I agree they could make different moves. But what moves get the Bulls past Miami right now? That's the problem.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
Bulls fans should be upset that org doesn't want to go deep in tax. I'd be upset too … but what moves get them past Miami?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
It's fair to rip org for not wanting to go deep into tax — it makes them look cheap — but explain to me what move you wanted them to make—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger So you would have brought back CJ, Kyle and Ronnie? What about Rose and Deng's injury status?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Because I think it's going to take another star AND other pieces. In order to do that you would have to rearrange roster.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Of course cap space isn't the only way, but it gives you the most options to go after a larger group of targets.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Why do a deal for Howard knowing he doesn't want to come here and your best player will be out most of the season?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Because goal is to win title. If you can't improve to a point where you get past Heat why make move that may hurt future?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger We have another fundamental disagreement. They aren't good enough now and can't improve enough by holding group in place.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@BullsBlogger Answer me this question: Let's say they re-signed Ronnie, Kyle, CJ. Derrick comes back like old Derrick. Do they win title?—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
.@bullsblogger Come on, I enjoyed this. The debate is good. You didn't answer the last question, though.—
Nick Friedell (@ESPNChiBulls) July 18, 2012
@BullsBloggers point of view:
@ESPNChiBulls leverage ability to take on salary to acquire assets, stay good, wait to trade for a star. Had $10m in NG money and did shit.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls the answer isn't let guys go to maybe possibly get someone in 2 offseasons in marketplace you've failed in multiple times.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls its never 'one move', that's crap.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls if being a big-market team isn't feasible (pathetic), quit being safe and start being Spurs. Secondary stars need to be better—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls right now they're too uncreative to be cheap. Safe moves are ok, but then spend. 2014 cap space is cheap AND lazy.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls Gar gets paid, so I hope he has better ideas than stripping everything around a team that already was too reliant on Rose.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls I don't think that full strength they beat Miami either. But there's value in being 2nd best, wait for a big3 injury…—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls and you say you agree with needing more than one move, yet the future 'star' acquisition seems like you're selling such.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls keeping affordable contracts to trade for a star keeps more in the cupboard after such a move. Plus, don't have to do FA dance—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls and this mindset really makes no sense considering you agree with not doing a Dwight Howard rental!—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls if you think cap space is the only way to get a star, if Howard leaves they'll have tons of it.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls and ultimately, why care that the Bulls profits take a hit for a 'stuck' team. I'd rather Asik get overpaid than Reinsdorf.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls I'd keep them to trade, they were on 1 year deals. Or deal before draft for assets if Bulls would take on $.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls you keep asking about 'one move' or a single player to beat Miami. How about a goal of trying to get better?—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
Exactly. Waiting for cap space is 'stuck' in a way too RT @2ndcitydiehard: @ESPNChiBulls @BullsBlogger Cutting them cuts options.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls I agree it may take a lot, thus why working backwards isn't the way to go. Don't have to strip down to build up.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls holding group in place gives them more options than letting them go for cap space to aim at someone you can't identify either.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls and not using NG deals or keeping for a single season wouldn't mortgage future, just profits.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
@ESPNChiBulls I'm a gracious winner, so I'll answer: If they kept everyone, they likely fall short. But in better position to improve.—
(@BullsBlogger) July 18, 2012
(Joking about the 'winner' part, I'll let the reasoned consensus of Twitter decide that! Good match, @ESPNChiBulls)—
